Day of the Dead Mask Attempt - One ♦Olly Zee ♦ |
I created this half "Day of the Dead" skull makeup, using:
-A White Eyeliner Pencil (Nyx)
-White Face Paint (Mehron)
-Black Liquid Liner (Sephora)
-Pink, Black, and White Eye Shadow (BHCosmetics)
-Silver Eye Shadow (Urban Decay)
I started off by sort of mapping out where I wanted the teeth and the hallowing of the cheek bone using the white eyeliner pencil. I also used the pencil to sketch out where I wanted the edge of the skull to be on my face. I filled everything but the teeth area, the eye socket area, and the hallow part in my cheek with white face paint by Mehron and layered about two or three coats of that on before I was happy with it. I waited for the face paint to dry and then mixed a white and silver eye shadow together and patted it onto all the white spots. I took a pink eye shadow and shaded in the eye socket, the hallow in my cheek and started making the outline for my teeth. I used a black eye shadow to contour and add shadows and depth to certain places that needed it, including my temple, the hallow part of my cheek right under my cheek bone, and outlining the teeth. I then took the black liquid liner, lined the cracked part of skull and started making swirl designs in places I thought would look nice. I lined the circle around my eye and made small half circles coming off the circle around my eye to create a sort of lace pattern. I also shaded on the other side of the skull to make it look kind of like a mask, using a mix of black eye shadow and a dark blue eye shadow, starting right at the black line and lightly shading outward away from the line, to make a kind of shadowed effect.
If/When I do this again I will definitely take more time on the designs or patterns and I will also shade the inner part of the circle around my eye to make it look more like a mask, and make the teeth look a little bit more like teeth and not shapes on my face.
But other than those small critiques, I really love how this turned out. Especially for my first time ever doing any kind of skull makeup.
